In fifth grade we learn about the Catholic sacraments, read lots of fiction and non-fiction, develop our writing skills, study U.S. History from the Age of Contact through Post Civil War Reconstruction, work on science mysteries, and dig into a hearty math program.
Fifth grade is the first year where students get to switch classes, taking Social Studies in 5A and Science in 5B as we prepare to move to the upper school. We create projects for our annual fair (the Religion Fair this year) and prepare Masses and a Martin Luther King, Jr. all-school prayer service. We eagerly anticipate our spring field trip to Biztown, where we will spend a day running a town, holding down jobs, and handling our finances. In fifth grade, students can finally join the band, and participate in a multi-school band spring concert at Kennedy Catholic High School. It's an exciting year, jam-packed with fun opportunities to grow!
